Oh Nero … It’s a long way to the top, and when you get there it’s a long way to fall.

We like to think of it this way, he sings “I didn’t start the fire”, but of course he didn’t fiddle while Rome burned. No, it was far more interesting than that.

Join us for an exploration of the end of of the Julio-Claudians. This family changed the governance of Rome forever. As the first dynasty of the imperial period they set the stage for the imperialism to come. The culmination of the family is Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, but boy, how do things come to end! Herein, we consider the loves, the losses, and the scandals.
