We’ve been up to quite a few things lately – including a couple of guest appearances!
Classical Wisdom
We sat down to chat about Pompeii and the terrible tragedy that ensued with the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE. This is an expansive topic and one for which there is often new evidence emerging from the archaeological work conducted at the vast site. This subject is never out of date and always evolving in terms of the scholarly discussion. Pompeii features on the high school syllabus in Australia for ancient history students, so we’re always eager to speak on this topic to help expand the resources available to teachers.

Coffee & Cocktails
Our latest guest appearance is with Dr Ann Wand ‘The Alternative Anthropologist’ on her podcast Coffee & Cocktails. We discussed Roman sexuality and sexual practices. This subject is vast and we can learn a lot about just how contextualised attitudes are towards certain acts and behaviours. It’s hard to stay away from Pompeii and we also discuss the ‘Secret Cabinet’ to explore what we might learn about Roman sexual practice from this discovery.
You can find the early release of the episode here: Sexuality in Ancient Rome & Pompeii’s Secret Cabinet.
