Romulus – Season 2 with Movies We Dig

Romulus is an amazing television production exploring the early history of Rome. It combines nods to the ancient sources as well as new creative directions to bring together a tense, immersive world. This immersiveness is emphasised by the choice to script the series entirely in a form of proto-Latin, which adds a whole new layer of complexity for the actors.

Wiros (Francesco Di Napoli, centre) and Yemos (Andrea Arcangeli, right) are co-rulers in the new city of Rome – Romulus Season 2

We highly recommend watching both seasons of Romulus before diving into our latest conversation. We were thrilled to be guests on the Movies We Dig podcast discuss Romulus, Season 1 (2020) back in 2024. Now we’re back to dive into the details of Romulus, Season 2 (2022)!

Season 2 sees Wiros and Yemos, the co-rulers of the recently founded Rome, looking to build relationships with their neighbours. The biggest fish in the local pond is the Sabines, led by Titos Tatios. There’s only one thing for it: the Romans will need to meet with the Sabines!

If you’re already up to speed with Romulus, Season 1 but are considering whether you want to strap in for a second season we also recently collaborated with Movies We Dig on a watch through of Romulus, Season 2, Episode 1 ‘Offesa’ which you can catch over on the Movies We Dig YouTube channel.

There’s plenty to enjoy and critique about Romulus and we love diving into the details of the early period of Rome. If you keen to learn more about the period of the Roman kings, we’d be remiss not to recommend our book Rex: The Seven Kings of Rome which is packed with source details and covers some of the WILD stories that the Romans later told about this period of their history.

Six actors from the series Romulus stare out seriously from the promotional poster.
Clockwise from top left: Wiros (Francesco Di Napoli), Yemos (Andrea Arcangeli), Ilia (Marianna Fontana), Ersilia (Valentina Bellè), Titos Tatios (Emanuele Maria Di Stafano), and Silvia (Vanessa Scalera).
